On Saturday evening, Wichita State prepared to play #15th ranked Creighton, in Omaha, in front of the largest crowd ever to watch a game at the Centurylink Center. Not only did Wichita State come out of Omaha with a win, but put a beating on Creighton that hasn’t been seen since 1995. With WSU’s commanding win over UNI earlier in the week, I had mentioned that it was the best the Shockers had looked all year. Well they continued to impress, because the win over Creighton is now the best the Shockers have looked all year.

In what seems to be a trend ever since the Drake loss in triple overtime, the Shockers have played better every game since then. When speaking of Creighton, they seem to have done the opposite. The Jays are spiraling out of contention in the Valley with three straight losses. I would imagine that Creighton is completely out of the rankings. For Wichita State, I would expect a ranking of 21, 22, or 23. I wouldn’t rank them there, but that is just where I think the media and coaches will put them. If I had to rank them, I’d rank them one spot ahead of UNLV, which would mean that most likely, WSU is a top 15 program.

Up next is Missouri State at home, with the opportunity to lock up a share of the Valley regular season title. Wichita State is 2 games ahead in the race, with three games left to play. If Wichita State wins 2 of the next 3, they’ll be hanging a banner next year in Koch. For the remainder of the regular season, Wichita State plays MSU at home, then off to Davidson for the Bracketbusters match up, on the road to Illinois State, and then finishing the year out at home against Drake. It’s a tough stretch of four games, but if Wichita State can handle it’s business like they should, WSU could be going into Arch Madness in the top 15, with an eight game winning streak.

As always though, we have to take it a game at a time.
