I had the pleasure of getting my hands on a pair of these brand new Wichita State basketball shorts. They are only sold over at www.retrocollegecuts.com and not only do they sell Wichita State retro shorts, but five other teams at the moment. The Shocker faithful are lucky to be included in the initial six teams for these shorts. They are in the style of the great 1981 Shocker team, but I will say that they’re not as short as the ones worn in 81. They are styled in length to be of the modern style of basketball short which hangs just below the knees. I was really surprised at the quality of the short, they really are just like game worn uniforms.

Beyond the 1965 Final Four team there has potentially never been a more lethal Shockers team than the 1981 squad. The team boasted three future NBA players in Xavier McDaniel, Cliff Levingston and Antoine Carr. McDaniel would go on to score 2152 points and set the career rebounding record at 1359 boards. That year the Shockers drew a 6 seed in the Midwest Region of the NCAA Tournament and plowed through Southern-BR, Iowa and Kansas before falling in the Elite Eight to the #1 seeded LSU Tigers. The iconic MTXE slogan was born during this period; the letters stood for “Mental Toughness, Extra Effort” and were stitched onto the Shockers uniforms as a sign of their dedication to the values.

 

These replica game shorts are from the 1981 season and are designed after the home uniforms the Shox wore during that incredible season that proudly displayed the MTXE lettering.
