Ron Baker has had a whirlwind journey over the past 6 months. He has gone from playing in the NCAA tournament for the last time, to going undrafted, battling for a spot in the NBA summer league, making the final New York Knicks roster, and now earning minutes in the NBA regular season.
Shocker fans know well how much hustle Ron Baker exudes, but Knicks fans are just getting a taste of how intense Baker is on the court. On Wednesday night, the Knicks were beating the Mavericks by 20 late in the 4th quarter in Madison Square Garden. Ron got the nod to go in, and even in a blowout, he was tenacious on defense. With pressure on the ball-handler, and quick help on a double-team from Kyle O’Quinn, Baker batted the ball away then dove into the sideline throwing the ball back in play for a fast-break dunk by Mindaugas Kuzminskas.
When you dive into the crowd in Madison Square Garden, you never know who you’re going to run into. This time, Baker’s hustle threw him into celebrity row, with non other than Ben Stiller. Both Baker and Stiller watch the fastbreak together and then exchange a handshake afterwards. Baker was in the zone, I don’t even know if he realized who he ran into.
