There was an odd debacle of job changes for Eric Sexton back in April of 2015. Sexton had dual duties as VP of Student Affairs and as Athletic Director. Darron Boatright was promoted in April of 2015 to Deputy Director of Athletics as well as Chief Operating Officer to assist Sexton. When Dr. Bardo later decided two roles would not be the best fit for Sexton, Boatright was promoted to Interim Athletic Director in December of 2015.
Today, Darron Boatright’s “Interim” title was removed, and he is now officially the Athletic Director at Wichita State. Staff in the Athletic Department were informed this morning by WSU President, Dr. John Bardo.
Boatright is quoted “I have learned from working with talented coaches and staff how this success in competition takes place,” Boatright said. “My goal is to assist them in sustaining this success, focusing on areas where we can improve as a department and reach a complete program of excellence.”
“I see the greatness of Wichita and the value of Shocker athletics to building both the university and the region.”
Boatright joined the Wichita State staff in September 2010 from the University of Alabama at Birmingham where he served as Associate Athletic Director for Development beginning in November 2009. Prior to that, Boatright served as Associate AD of External Affairs at Murray State from 2005-08. Darron was a member of the University of Alabama basketball coaching staff from 1998-2005 and was part of four NCAA Tournament teams and two NIT teams while serving as Director of Basketball Operations.
