Update 8/7/2011: Schedule released. Click to view new post.
Yes, you read it correctly. The team is taking a summer trip to play some hoops in Brazil. The NCAA has some funny rules surrounding international trips to play basketball in the summer. The main one is that if you take a summer exhibition trip, then you get 10 days of practice back home to prepare. So not only do we get to play basketball in Brazil, but we actually get some benefit state side, by getting 10 sanctioned full time practices. We will be playing four to five games in Brazil, all of which are to be played against professional basketball teams. The competition that we will be playing against will be outstanding, and definitely will help the team in the long run.
The only downside to this trip would be if somehow someone got hurt, lets cross our fingers that the men have a fun and safe trip. One of the biggest advantages to this trip is the possibility of playing the Brazilian National Team. They are currently ranked 16th in the world over at FIBA. If we could play this team, it would help us tremendously gauge where we are as a team, and what we need to work on. From my understanding, none of the teams are completely booked yet, so hopefully I can get some more info closer to the trip. Something else to mention is that all of the incoming recruits are eligible to practice and play with the team. Could you imagine being one of these guys coming into your first year of college, and you start college off by traveling to beautiful Brazil to play basketball? These guys will be living the life soon enough.
